Mission: Flight Of The Valkyries
Timeline: March 18th, 2397

[USS Armitage]

Minori watched as the Tokyo was struck by the huge chunk of diamond. She could clearly see they had taken quite a bit of damage. When the message to take lead came through, she didn't hesitate.

"Commander Johnson. Armitage will take point. Fall behind us." Minori ordered. "Kushieda to all ships, Tokyo has taken damage from an impact. She's falling back to the rear of the formation. Maintain course, we still have work to do here." she said to the other ships.

[USS Ark Royal]

"That was quite the impact..." Captain Shipman said as she turned to face her executive officer.

"Yeah, it really was." the other woman replied. She then looked forward. "Helm, leave a gap for the Tokyo to fall back. Then close into formation." she ordered.

"Aye commander." The Andorian lieutenant at helm replied, his blue fingers running over the smooth glass control panels.

[USS Broadsword]

Captain Yuri Nakamura let out a long sigh. "Even without Captain Aisaka, that ship is far to reckless." She sat forward slightly in her chair. "Keep us close to the Armitage, we've got to cover for the Tokyo now." She ordered. "I've already lost one ship, and I'm not up for losing another one!"

[Alpha Starfighters]

As Fubuki ducked and weaved through more Asteroids and chunks of planetoid, she could see something in the distance. A shining purple light. Her eyes darted momentarily to her screens. It couldn't be anything else but the Iconian starbase, yet it was still too far away to see clearly, she had to confirm it was their target.

She pushed forward on her sticks increasing her speed thus pulling ahead of the other Starfighters. As she banked over a large asteroid, she finally saw it. The huge structure that was their target. It was different to any other starbase she had ever seen before, yet it had the same design architecture of the Herald ships.

"Snowflake to fleet. I have a positive identity on the target. Registering out at three thousand klicks directly fore." She reported. Her hands gripped her sticks tighter. Their target wasn't far, soon they wouldn't be shooting rocks any more, but at an actual starbase. "Power readings indicate that it is yet to be fully operational," she added to her report.

"I've got eyes on it," Lynette corroborated. "I take it that's the Starbase?"

"Affirmative," Fubuki replied. "Prepare to engage."

"Copy that," Lynette responded. "Weapons systems are hot; awaiting your orders."

Grace's eyes lit up at the target, now in the lead of her trio again, "Sabre with two, ready to rock and roll, Snowflake."

[USS Armitage]

"Captain, the CAG has confirmed the target on the other side of the asteroid field." The ops officer reported.

Minori sat forward in her chair slightly. "They probably know that we're coming by now. We've not exactly being subtle about it." she replied. "If we still have the element of surprise, then lets use it." Minori tapped a button on her chair arm controls. "All ships. The Iconian Starbase has been confirmed and sighted, we're going in hot. Report to battle stations and prepare to engage."

[USS Tokyo]

Thomas couldn't help but feel a bit of failure in his part, which just angered him. This was his chance to prove himself as a CO, now, the ships disabled, and they didn't even get to their target. He clenched his teeth, and sat back. Hearing that the target was in sight, he leaned forward. Maybe all was not lost. "How long before shields and weapons come online."

"A few minutes," the officer at Ops reported. "We're still in formation behind the Armitage, they should be fully back online by the time we engage."

A smile came across his face, "Excellent, even if temporary, we did need to pull back." He paused "Lt contact the Armitage let them know that the damage looked worse than it was, and we will be able to assume lead by the time we get to our destination."

Lieutenant Yuvek observed the shift in Commander Thomas's expression as the damage report came in - the tension easing slightly, replaced by cautious optimism. The initial assessment had been dire, but now it appeared the Tokyo's condition was less catastrophic than the first impact suggested. But even as Thomas' frustration transformed into determination, Jasad found himself wondering...Would Captain Taiga have positioned them differently in the asteroid field? Would she have anticipated the diamond's trajectory differently? Would they even be pulling back from the assault line right now?

His voice remained professional, steady, exactly what a commanding officer needed from his helmsman in a tense moment. He didn't let the questions show - not about the Commander's decisions, not about whether things would have gone differently under different leadership. Such doubts, if spoken aloud, could undermine command authority.

That's a conversation for the ready room. Later. If it comes to that at all.

"Aye, Sir," Lieutenant Yuvek acknowledged, opening the fleet-wide communication channel to the Armitage. "Contacting the Armitage now."

=/\= "Tokyo to Armitage, damage assessment indicates structural integrity is holding better than initial reports. Shields and weapons systems coming back online within minutes. We'll be ready to resume lead position by the time we reach the Herald Starbase." He said as he returned his attention to his helm controls, already calculating the vector they'd need to reintegrate into the assault formation.

[USS Tokyo, Deck 8]

"Clear a path," Zach said as he ran down the corridor towards the damaged section, a heavy case in hand one hand, his tool kit in the other. The repair teams had reported in, and to his dismay, the damage to the shield generators wasn't extensive, but two control relay boards were blown, as were the connectors, and replacing everything would take too long. Instead, he'd had them begin rerouting power around the damaged control system while he pulled together a box of toys.

He reached the repair team, putting his case down and opening it quickly. "Is the power rerouted from the damaged parts?" he said. He'd managed to level out and was back to his normal self, which he was grateful for. He was more creative that way.

"Aye, Sir," PO Kawalski said. "But the main control panel is shot to hell."

"Well then we're going to just lose control for a while," Zach said. He quickly assembled the relay panels and portable power conduits, connecting four bioneural gel packs to the system. Within another two minutes, he had what looked like a box with two plugs. "I need wrist beacons on," he said. While the others got out their light sources, he tapped his combadge quickly. "Addams to Engineering, cut power to my location."

A moment later, the lights went out and the beams of light around him focused on his new box. He slid it closer and pulled the power cables that had been grafted in, attaching them to the ports in the box. He pushed it away and had everyone clear their gear and step back. "All right, Engineering, bring power back online."

A moment later, the lights returned and the box hummed as power surged through it.

Zach let out a breath of relief that nothing exploded and tapped his combadge. "Addams to bridge: shields are back online," he said. "We'll have weapons momentarily. Addams out."

"But without the control relay, once the shields are up, we can't lower them," Kawalski said.

"Right now, we don't want to," Zach said. "So, your team continue to repair the primary system and get the control relay back online. Rest of us to Deck C to help with the weapons systems."

The teams nodded as one got to work and they other took off running with Zach to their next stop.

[USS Tokyo Bridge]

"Commander, work has begun on the weapons system, our shields are back online." Connor replied as he brought them back up. "However, no more 180 tokyo drift style maneuvers to pick up fighters. We cannot lower them."

~kind of ironic with the name of the movie actually being called Tokyo drift, being referred to.~ Thomas nodded, "At this point, we lose any there probably wont be anything left to pick up. So Lt we won't have a worry about that. Notify helm once weapons is online, once we do, we are at the lead once again, can't let those heralds believe they got one down can we."

"Power is holding steady, however he is right sir. The Shield emitters are damaged and thus jammed." The ops officer explained. "However, we should still be good to fight sir." he added a hint of enthusiasm in his tone.

[Alpha Starfighters]

The asteroids and chunks of planetoid began to thin out. The Iconian Starbase was now visible to the naked eyes, and Fubuki was already ready to begin the attack. Her sensors had started to return to their full functionality now as well.

"Snowflake to all fighters. Target confirmed. Sensors indicate that they have thirty eight energy weapons batteries. Several of them appear to be charging, unconfirmed if they have defence Star fighters." she called out to the rest of the fighters. "Priority target is the Starbase Weapons batteries. Shoot to destroy. Once you're through, don't hesitate, go on the immediate attack. Lets do this, show them that we won't take their crap anymore! Good luck!"

The transmission cut off. The last few of the Asteroids were blasted apart by the Alpha Star fighters Phaser cannons. Just like Snowflake had ordered, they darted from the asteroid field directly at the Starbase in the centre. Phaser cannons erupted as they charged full speed towards the enemy.

The real battle had begun...
