Mission: Flight Of The Valkyries
Location: Various
Timeline: March 18th, 2397

[USS Tokyo Bridge]

Connor still watching readouts, "Medical is reporting an influx of injured, they are being swamped, and we aren't even in battle yet." Connor replied looking over to the centre chair.

Thomas looked over, "We weren't expecting to be smacked by the largest diamond anyone has ever seen either." He replied, as he shifted in his seat. Status on the fighters?"

"Scans show the first wave of fighters are on an attack vector now." Connor replied, going over the scans.

Looking over at helm, "Lt contact Armitage, inform them we are ready to resume our previous position. Just like we previously practiced." He stood and walked over to the helm position. "Good flying back there Lt. We get through this, you're in for a commendation."

Lieutenant Yuvek nodded at the compliment, though his expression remained measured rather than gratified. A commendation was welcomed, but they both knew what was coming - an assault on a Herald Starbase with damaged systems and a crew already taking casualties from the transit through the asteroid field.

"Thank you, Sir," he said simply, his tone carrying a hint of dark humor. "I'll do my best to survive long enough to frame it."

He opened the communication channel to the Armitage without further comment, his tone shifting back to pure professional efficiency.

=/\= "Tokyo to Armitage, damage assessment complete. Shields and weapons systems are back online. We're ready to resume lead position as previously planned. Moving to intercept your vector now."

"Roger that Tokyo." Came the response from the Armitage.

His hands were already moving across the helm controls, calculating the approach vector that would bring them back to the front of the formation. The Tokyo's maneuvering was still sluggish from the thruster damage, but functional enough to execute the maneuver.

As the Tokyo once again slotted into the lead position, the asteroids began to thin out.

[Starfighters]

"Snowflake to all fighters. Target confirmed. Sensors indicate that they have thirty eight energy weapons batteries. Several of them appear to be charging, unconfirmed if they have defence Star fighters." she called out to the rest of the fighters. "Priority target is the Starbase Weapons batteries. Shoot to destroy. Once you're through, don't hesitate, go on the immediate attack. Lets do this, show them that we won't take their crap anymore! Good luck!"

Her engines roared as she pushed forward on her sticks. "This one is for Silica!" she said to herself as she opened up her phaser cannons.

"Roger that, Snowflake," Nozomi replied. "Chikura, you're on my six; we're going in hot!"

"Following you in Snowflake," Chikura added. She pushed forward on her sticks too. She could hear her heart thumping away in her chest as the target grew larger and larger.

At the command to attack, Grace McKenzie punched her throttles ahead to maximum, trusting her wingmen to do the same. It wasn’t that she was eager to get herself killed, but being one of the less armed of the flight group, she could certainly draw fire from those still armed with torpedoes.

“Tally Ho!” She called over the wing comm, “Pickle, Starburst, were going skimming, five and seven, half klick trail, prepare for targeting solutions. Snowflake, we’ll break trail, draw some fire.” Finally she switched her transmission to just herself and her two companions. This was what flying was all about, even if it meant dodging friendly fire on the way.

"Let's send these devils to whatever Hell the crawled out of." Anzehlina called out, before spending forward.

Of the trio of fighters that Grace led moved out ahead, one of them peeled off and then the other two seemed to elongate into warp and towards the station. A warp flicker maneuver, when going directly at a solid object, usually seen as a suicidal desperation move. The two reappeared almost directly at the station for anyone who was looking.

[USS Tokyo Bridge]

"Firing range in sixty seconds Commander." Connor replied as he looked over to the centre seat once again. "Other ships are awaiting your order to attack."

Thomas paused, "Lt if anything has taught me about the heralds... we should expect boarding parties, contact the other ships, have their teams on standby for herald boardings." He turned to the Helmsman. "Lt. Get ready for some more fancy flying, we are going to make this thing dance. Slow and steady, get ready to get us in as close to the main structure of the station."

Lieutenant Yuvek brought up the tactical coordination display that linked directly with the other five carriers' Helm systems. They were not using voice communications due to the risk of the Herald's picking up on their conversations. Instead, they relied upon encrypted data streams for their tactical synchronization.

His jaw tightened slightly as he worked, anxiety creeping at the edges of his focus. He pushed the anxiety down and focused on what he could control.
"Adjusting formation parameters through tactical link," he reported, his voice steady despite the weight of coordinating six massive carriers simultaneously. "All vessels confirming receipt of maneuver data. Syncing approach vectors with the main assault formation."

"Lt Carey, you have your targets."

Connor nodded, "Any weapons array, and what looks to be their command centre."

"Johnson to Engineering, what's the status of the shields array, we will need to lower them to beam the away team back from their mission."

Petty Officer First Class Alexis Aenera had returned to Engineering after she’d left the bridge for a look at the DCC panel, “Shields are in the upright and locked position, Sir.” She pulled up the readings on the screen in front of her and bit back a curse, “The Chief is trying a workaround, but if we drop them, we may not get them back anytime soon, Sir.”

"Understood." Thomas replied as he opened a comm to the other ships. "All ships, this is what we came here for, the turning of the tide... it's time to show, we have teeth. You have your designated targets. Fire at will."

[Runabout Kiowa]

The Arrow Class Runabout suddenly dropped out of warp at the edge of the massive asteroid field. Their destination, the USS Tokyo. Their cargo, a dozen replacement officers and crew, and a load of medical supplies that had been requested by the ship's CMO.

Unfortunately, what they hadn't been counting on was arriving smack dab in the middle of an active warzone.

"Oh, shit," The pilot gasped as he immediately realized his folly. "Strap in, everybody! This is gonna be a rough ride!"

Markus had already sat down in the copilot's seat a few moments before the young human Ensign had brought them out of warp. As soon as he saw the battle unfolding in the distance, his combat experience kicked in. Looking at the pilot, he asked, "You have any combat experience, kid?"

The Ensign looked over at Markus, and the Klingon/El Aurian hybrid knew the answer right away. He quickly signed into the runabout computer with his credentials. "I'm taking command," he said in a commanding tone. "Inform the Tokyo of our status." He then worked the controls, throwing the nimble courier into a sharp dorsal dive, as he pinwheeled to port, avoiding some stray asteroids that had been disturbed during the battle.

Soren's Valkyrie fighter just finished destroying another target when a familiar female voice came through his secluded channel. "Hey, Speedy. I got a boogie coming in on an intercept course to the Tokyo. Scans show its a runabout with personnel onboard."

Soren let out a frustrated groan as he rolled his eyes a bit. "Someone needs to slap the pilot of that thing and throw him back in the Academy so he can cook some more." He added as he tapped his control console, bringing up the location of the runabout, right before marking all the obstacles in its path. "These people better be worth it." He mumbled before switching his comm channel. "Yo! Wildkat! You dead yet?"

"No, brother. I'm not dead yet." Came the deep voice of his trusted friend, Srelar, followed by the distinct soft growl of a Caitian. "What kind of trouble did you get yourself in this time, Soren?"

Soren smiled transmitting the information over to Srelar's Valkyrie. "Not me, Kitty. Bettie's got a runabout in the hot zone. Looks like its headed for the Tokyo. Got passengers onboard. No info on who or why."

"Friend or Foe?" Srelar replied firmly.

"It's a runabout, Srelar. I'm guessing friend?!" Soren countered with a raised brow.

"We don't know if that runabout is actually filled with allies, because what shuttle-jockey would fly a shuttle in the middle of a battle and not expected there to be problems. It could have been commandeered by the enemy and meant to be a lure for the Tokyo so they will let them in and either begin an attack of explode." The Caitian countered, taking in a deep breath, before letting it out with a faint growl.

"You may be right, than again, you may be wrong." Soren said, already mapping a course to the runabout, before adding. "Putting aside your obvious paranoia issues, we should go check it out. Good ending: We safe some lives. Bad ending: It blows up and takes us with it."

Srelar was silent for a moment, before replying. "If I say no, you're going to go anyway, aren't you?"

"Basically." Soren said before heading the soft growl from his friend come over their comm-channel. "I'll take that as a confirmation that your joining me." He tapped on his controls again, before saying. "Bettie, Girl.... Send the course to Wildkat."

"Course laid in and transmitted to Wildkat via secured channel." Bettie replied. "Try not to get us killed, Speedy."

Soren's Valkyrie began its course, thrusters firing immediately, as it began its maneuvers to reach the runabout. The starfighter was making little effort to engage, unless it was necessary. The priority was to make it to the runabout and figure out what was going on with it. He was soon joined by Wildkat, as they began their approach towards the runabout.

"Runabout Kiowa? Identify: Friend or Foe?" Soren said, in a firm voice, as it was transmitted over the open channel to the runabout. "You are entering a combat arena. State your intentions?"
