1,450 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: Flight Of The Valkyries
Location: Sickbay, USS Tokyo

Having met with the Colonel, Sina decide it was time for her physical. Making her way down the corridors, see observed and analyzed everyone and everything with practised ease.

She was a hunter, a warrior, all data was important until proven otherwise. Over the years her people had lost their psionic abilities, relying more on their heightened senses for survival.

Sina was a pathfinder, she went in first to analyze the situation, locate threats and eliminate them, if required. She prepared and secured the insertion point for her fellow Marines utilize.

Entering Sickbay, she noted all exits and entrances, and observed the medical personnel going about their tasks.

It didn't take her long to locate the CMO. Approaching the tall, brunette woman, she noticed that Commander Valentine held herself like a Marine.

"Good morning, Doctor, I am Sergeant Sina Ravenna, and I am here for my onboarding physical."

Nyx glanced up from the console she was reviewing data on, having felt the eyes on her when the doors had slid open and in her peripheral vision having had evaluated the Vulcan-resemblant that had been appraising her entire staff, "Sergeant." She stated simply, now openly glancing up and down the Marine, even as she lifted the heel of one of her feet and tapped it on the ground, the two inch spike making ticking noise, "I suppose it is a good morning, isn't it... Go ahead and hop on up, we'll get this over with." Her mouth turned up in a smile, the lipstick clearly unmarred from anything so far.

Sina did as she was instructed. She raised an inquisitive eye brow at the doctor's bedside manner. "Are you well, Doctor?" She asked.

"I'm perfectly fine," Nyx stated as she keyed in the biobed's scanning function with a smirk, "I'm just woolgathering a fair bit, I remember the time when I, too, was a Sergeant and in the prime of my time as a Marine. Before they sent me off to medical school for a project that they then said was a bad idea and sidelined me onto a hospital ship. So, what have you been up to, Sergeant Ravenna, and are you having any issues I should be aware of?"

"Well recently I was blown into a cave wall, by an explosion, I set off while fighting giant metal spiders." Sina said. "I lost consciousnesses, had broken bones, 3rd degree burns and internal bleeding." She explained. "But Doctor O'Rourke, the CMO on the Pioneer, got me back on my feet. She's an excellent surgeon and a Marine, in all but name." She smiled. "Doctor, I'm glad you are a former Marine, I feel more comfortable around Marines, that I do most 'Fleeters."

"Former?" Nyx asked as she keyed for a more in depth scan of certain parts of Sina, "I may have officially transferred over to the Fleet, but that was just so I could get off the Doss and onto a ship where I could make a difference. I wasn't made to be on a hospital ship, I was quite happy being on the Team. I see that you're a Pathfinder, I never got that opportunity, but I was part of Delta Third." While it wasn't as prestigious among Marine Special Forces as being a Pathfinder, the 3rd Marine Division's Force Recon unit had it's own reputation of being the sharp end of the spear, Delta and Alpha especially, went by the moniker of Zen if you've ever heard of me."

"I meant no disrespect, Zen." Sina said using the doctor's Marine moniker. "I go by Stalker myself." She thought for a moment. "I was Recon before specialising as a Pathfinder, both MOS mean that we're the first in and often the last out, it can be dangerous work, but that's part of what makes it rewarding."

"No offense taken, sometimes you never know when someone has had enough." Nyx gave a shrug, "And while I don't really miss the danger, I'd rather be there than subject someone else to it who has people out there that truly care about them. All right, you do have it right, Doctor O'Rourke did do a good job with putting you back together and the only thing I'd be concerned about is the potential head trauma. If you start getting hallucinations, even this late after the injury, I want you to report it to me right away. I've seen problems like that come up in the past and I don't want something treatable putting you down."

"Understood, Doc, thank you." Sina said. "If that's all I have a bow hunting appointment on Holodeck 2, soon."

"Oh?" Nyx's eyes brightened, "We have another archer on board now? I may or may not know a fair bit about it." She gave a slight shrug, "I mean, I've only been forced to train in it since I was a kid, the whole female family tradition and all. The good news is that I've always enjoyed it."

"I too was trained from a young age to use the bow. It is something all of my people go through, along with training in bladed weapons. My homeworld is not like Vulcan, it has thick jungles and deep seas, both are full of vicious beasts, so we adapted our customs and our actions to our new world, which meant we became skilled hunters, and trackers." Doing her best approximation of a smile, she added. "I enjoyed every minute of it."

“For me, I am Nyxala Valentine of the Sixth House of Betazed, Wielder of Bow of Raxzha.” Nyx shook her head, “It’s not as impressive as it sounds, but when your direct ancestor helped unify the planet however many millennia ago, using that particular bow, it does mean one has to learn to use it. Besides, it’s fun to shoot. At least the damned ceremony is only once a year and the wind is always the same.”

"It does sound impressive, my family are farmers, and teachers." Sina said. "My greatest honour, before joining the corps, was that I brought down a 30 kg, Dah'Rak beast single-handed, and managed to avoid being speared by any of its three, 2 metre long, sharp, screw-like horns." She laughed. "Not all are so lucky."

“I think I’m going to need to know the name of your homeworld then, Sina, just so I can avoid it!” Nyx grinned, “That does not sound like a fun critter to face off against and I make it a point to not get skewered like a marshmallow by anyone or any thing.” She tapped a few buttons on the panel, “The good news is, aside from that one thing, I can state that you appear to be in good health, but knowing Marines as I do, I know that can change at any time, even just because of training. Do you have any questions for me?”

"I know you were joking, but my homeworld is Vellon III. To the Vulcans my people are known as Wuh pakik, meaning 'The Lost'. We are the descendent of three Vulcan colony ships that left Vulcan millennia ago." Sina said.

"As for questions, I have two." Sina said. "How rare is it for Betazoids to have light blue eyes?" "And, would you like to join me on the holodeck for some bow hunting, some time?" She asked.

“Secondly,” Nyx smiled as she chose to answer the questions in reverse order, “I would love to join you at some point, when we’re not preparing to go into a life or death struggle. It really does sound a treat, as for the other?” She fluttered her eyelashes, “To call it rare is an injustice, but for pure blood Betazoids? Having any color pigmentation aside from black is one in ten million I think? But that sounds a bit low. I know some that serve in Starfleet use contact lenses, so as to not alarm the other races or disconcert them, and half-bloods commonly have colored irises. I guess I’m just lucky, aren’t I?”

"Thank you, Doctor, I enjoyed meeting you." Sina said as she stood. "I will contact you about the hunt, when we have thrown off this evil, that assaults us." Crossing herself from left shoulder to right hip with the open palm of her right hand she said. "I wish you glorious days, Nyxala."

“And to you, Sina, but please, Nyx. Easier to say, plus I only use my full name on really formal occasions.” Nyx gave a slight shrug, “Shoot straight and happy hunting.”
