It's the 4th of July.
Normally, I wouldn't make a special announcement for a holiday that's celebrated in just one country. However, today marks a truly historic occasion: the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.
A large portion of our player base was born, raised, and still lives in the United States, making today a particularly meaningful day for many members of our community. While I've never had the pleasure of visiting America myself, I have a deep appreciation for the history of its people and the contributions they have made to the world.
From helping secure freedom in Europe during both World Wars, to pioneering and expanding the Internet, connecting billions of people across the globe, and sending the first humans to the Moon during the Apollo missions, America's achievements have helped shape the modern world. No nation is perfect, and every country has its triumphs and its flaws, but I can honestly say that I have a great deal of respect for the American people—many of whom I consider not just friends, but extended family.
That, of course, includes the American members of this very crew.
Within the Star Trek universe, the United States is the home of Starfleet Command and Starfleet Academy, located in the beautiful city of San Francisco. Every Starfleet officer serving aboard the USS Tokyo would have walked those halls at some point in their career before taking their place among the stars.
So, to all of our American friends here aboard the USS Tokyo, and to those celebrating across the world, I wish you all a very Happy Independence Day as you celebrate the 250th anniversary of your nation's founding.
Happy 4th of July!
(Now you've only got another 849 years to catch up with little old England...)
