“Captain,” Nezuko’s console said for her. “We can evacuate stable wounded to Blackhawk and have them retreat.”
Lieutenant Yuvek's mind immediately began working through the logistics, his hands already plotting potential vectors on his console. He turned towards the Ops station. "Nezuko - what's the Cortana's current shield and power status? Can they handle moving into an active combat position?" he asked.
She checked and nodded. “Cortana’s shields at six-seven percent. Power stable for now. Can hold out in active position, duration unclear.”
With that answer, he turned towards Tactical. "Connor - if the Cortana rotates into the Blackhawk's position, can you maintain our current firing solution on the Herald cruisers? We can't afford gaps in our offensive."
"I can, but we need a third ship, otherwise we won't last very long."
Finally, Lieutenant Yuvek looked towards Captain Taiga.
"Captain, recommend we rotate the Blackhawk out of combat formation," he said quickly. "I can position them to receive our overflow patients via direct transport - gets them close enough for clean beam-over without disrupting our station coverage." Lieutenant Yuvek said as his fingers moved across the helm display, highlighting the proposed formation. "Once the Blackhawk takes on our stable wounded, they withdraw to a safe distance and make for the nearest starbase."
Taking a ship out of the battle was a risky manuever. Especially since the Herald's didn't seem to follow the standard rules of engagement. However with the Blackhawk in no state to fight, it was an opportunity to get the sounded out of harms way. "Have the Blackhawk take on any injured, and then tell them to retreat to a safe distance." Taiga ordered.
The Tokyo shook again as it took more fire. However this time it was far more violent as the Herald's anti-proton beams finally breached the ships Shields blasting a sizeable hole in the Tokyo's forward bow. "Make it quick!" Taiga added to her order. She didn't know the full extent of the damage, but she could tell that the Heralds had made a significant strike.
"Forward shields down to 25 percent. Last hit took out three decks sections 3 to 6. No casualties, nonpriority areas of the ship. Cargo bays and storage units." Connor replied, "Our shields won't hold up much longer."
Taiga nodded. "Inform damage control teams, and keep our strongest shields facing the enemy"
[Starfighters]
Fubuki gripped her sticks as she headed the formation towards the Herald destroyers. She could feel her heart beating and the adrenaline surging through her veins as her thumb hovered over the trigger. Looking down she checked her pulse phasers... fully charged...
"Snowflake to all pilots. Attack Pattern Omega. Hit them at these co-ordinates." She ordered. She tapped a few times on her comm panel. She wanted to hit them at the same place, punch through their shields and open a hole in their hull large enough to do some real damage.
"Once we punch a hole in their shields, launch your torpedoes. Lets take these bastards out!" She added.
"Roger that, Snowflake," Nozomi radioed as Triumph Squadron broke off and circled around to rejoin the group. "Maneuvering into position, over."
"Coming up on your starboard Gemini!" Rin's voice called through the comm system. The young blonde pilot known as 'Twin 2' pulled up alongside ready for the attack run. Her eyes were fixed forward and her thumb hovered over the trigger ready to release her assault.
“This is Buccaneer. On Vector, Snowflake,” reported Vyse. It was his first flight with the callsign, given because of his eye piece. He didn’t mind it.
"Target locked; payload is hot," Nozomi reported as her fighters formed up along Fubuki's port flank. "On your mark, Snowflake."
Fubuki's eyes darted from her weapons status screen to her targeting scanners. They were flying in a V shape formation, almost wing to wing charging full at the Herald destroyer. Beams of purple energy weapons narrowly missed them as they darted right at the vessel.
"Fire!" Fubuki called. Her thumb pressed down on the red trigger button. Instantly the phaser cannons of her Valkyrie erupted into life sending rapid pulses of bright orange energy towards the target.
Just offset and behind Fubuki, Grace added her own craft's lesser firepower to the onslaught, holding the formation as one purple beam disintegrated the craft on her opposite side. She wanted to break off into independent maneuvers, but this was part of being in a full wing, they would lose people, but they needed to concentrate their firepower. Her eyes flicked between the sensors and her surroundings because her own fighter from the Foch had sacrificed firepower for a recon suite.
The first destroyer went up in a flare of light and the target was switched and one spot highlighted on this ship's shields on her screen, "Priority target," She stated over the comm, sending the coordinates to every other ship in the squadron.
"Coordinates received; reloading for a second run," Nozomi stated. "Payload is hot, ready to commence on your mark, Snowflake."
Fubuki caught the explosion of the other Valkyrie in her wing out of the corner of her eye. However she remained focused and facing forward. Now was not the time to be getting emotional, she knew that they were bound to suffer losses. "Tighten formation, double back and follow my lead in." Fubuki ordered.
“Harley Two, tightening in, with ordnance to spare,” Aika said. “You with us, Vyse?”
“On Snowflake’s other side,” Vyse answered. “I still have four torpedoes. Target acquired.”
Fubuki checked the positions of her pilots and a small smile emerged on her face. "Weapons hot guys. Lets go get some kills!" She ordered as the formation banked in space and made a run towards the next target.

The viewscreen showed the Blackhawk starting to move away from the battle. "Lets take some cover fire for them." Taiga said. "Put us directly in between us and the Heralds. Lets make sure they get away."
"Aye, Ma'am," Lieutenant Yuvek responded immediately, his hands already moving to reposition the Tokyo between the retreating Blackhawk and the Herald formation.
His hands moved carefully across the helm, using thrusters to pivot the carrier so their bow faced the Herald cruiser while maintaining their position between the enemy and the retreating Blackhawk. "Rotating to bearing zero-nine-zero - bringing forward weapons to bear while holding position."
Can't charge. Can't maneuver. Just have to sit here and take it.
The Tokyo turned in place, its damaged bow now pointing directly at the Herald cruiser. "Forward pulse phasers aligned with target. Holding station - we're locked in position to screen the Blackhawk's retreat."
We're about to take everything they've got. Jasad thought.
The Tokyo's shields flickered as the Armitage Class starship took several hits from the Heralds. The ship was zig-zagging to avoid taking more fire, whilst unleashing its arsenal of phasers upon the attacking vessels. However they were having little effect upon the superior Cruisers.
"That cruiser is stubborn..." Taiga muttered in frustration as their shots were failing to hit through their enemies shields. "Put our bow directly at them, focus on one section of their shields with the pulse phasers!" she ordered. She hoped that their phaser cannons, similar to the ones of the Defiant Class starships could punch through their shields.
"Holding steady on target," Lieutenant Yuvek reported, making only minor adjustments to compensate for incoming fire. "Connor - you have a clean, sustained firing solution on their forward shield section."
Trade maneuverability for firepower. Hope Connor makes it count.
"Fire!" Taiga said simply.
The phasers seemed to bounce off the Herald's shields, no matter how much they unleashed their fury. The entire crew watched as their assault on the cruiser failed. "Keep firing!" Taiga told them. "Maybe we can punch through... We need to punch through..."
A strange lavender coloured beam locked onto the Tokyo. It held the ship stable.
"Tractor beam Captain, remodulating shields... not working. Weapons are being drained." Connor replied, "Console is not working."
"Have they been reading the Borg Manual or something?!" Taiga said in surprise. She had never seen the Heralds use their tractor beams. She was surprised that they even had one on their ships. This didn't feel right, they were bound on full destruction, why would they want to hold them?
"We need to find a way to break the beam..." Taiga started.
Suddenly green shots of energy weapon smashed their way through the Herald's shields. The origin of the beam was engulfed in an explosion. The Tokyo shook as the momentum from the beam breaking cause the ship to tilt a few degrees. Over the dorsal of the Tokyo four ships zoomed, their weapons firing green bolts and red torpedoes. Three Klingon Bird of Prey and a Vor'cha charged at full speed towards the Herald cruiser. Their combined firepower cutting through its shields and landing fatal blows.
"Klingon?!" Taiga exclaimed. There was a momentary pause on the bridge. "Well lets not look a gift horse in the mouth! Fall into their formation, lets go in together!" Taiga ordered quickly. "Nezuko, hail those Klingon ships."
A moment later, following Nezuko’s input, a comm channel chimed open.
The viewscreen came on showing a large Klingon staring back. "Name is Captain Korloth of the house of D'Rok. Thought you could use a little help Captain. I am sending a Klingon boarding party to assist with those treacherous Iconian scum."
"Welcome to the battlefield Captain." Taiga replied. "The Blackhawk is attempting to withdraw with the injured and civilians." she explained. "We're trying to keep the Heralds busy whilst they make their retreat." she hoped that the Klingon commander would understand that their duty was to protect the Civilians and the injured no matter the cost.
"Pull your ships alongside the Tokyo, assist in flanking and lets demonstrate what our combined firepower can do. I don't have to tell you to hold anything back..." she said with a wry smile. Things were starting to turn for the better, with the Klingons arrival it took some of the pressure off of them, however they were still outnumbered and outgunned in all respects.
"Those who target the weak are nothing but P'taqs, I will send one of my ships to escort them out of the sector and to another starbase. We will avenge those who do not make it. Die well Captain."
"Helm. Co-ordinate fleet movements with the Klingons. Their ships are far more manueverable than ours, so no doubt they'll be using this to theirt advantage. Keep up with them as best you can, push the Tokyo past her limits if you need me. Just keep the nacelles bolted on..." Taiga ordered directing her order forward towards the helm.
"Tactical. I need you to also co-ordinate with their Tactical officers. Lets make sure we don't have any friendly fire screwing us over." Taiga added.
"Syncing up with their ships Captain, the Cortana is following suit."
"Nezuko. Drop everything thats not essential and dump that power into the structural integrity fields. Its time to fly and fight with this ship like a Klingon." Taiga said.
Nezuko nodded and started doing just that. Everything—everything—that wasn’t 100% essential was for the moment expendable. Non-critical systems across all decks were going dark as the SIF was being pumped full of extra power. Even the lights dimmed and if any of them had been walking, they’d have felt that gravity had shifted to 0.8g everywhere except main engineering and sickbay.
Lieutenant Yuvek's jaw tightened as he assessed his damage readouts and the tactical situation. He turned partially toward Captain Taiga, his expression grim.
Tell her what she doesn't want to hear. That's the job. He thought pensively.
"Ma'am, we're damaged. We can still fight, but we can't dance..." He said bluntly. "We can't keep up with the Klingons," he said bluntly. "The damage to our forward sections has compromised thruster response on our port side. Maneuvering capability is down approximately thirty percent from standard."
His hands gestured toward his console displays. "The BoP's can execute attack patterns we simply cannot match in our current condition. If I try to coordinate direct fleet movements with them, we'll either fall behind their maneuvers or tear ourselves apart trying to keep pace."
He looked back at his helm controls, frustration evident in his voice. "And that's assuming we could maneuver freely - which we can't. We're locked within eight thousand kilometers of the station to maintain transporter coverage for the away team and any survivors they find."
"Recommend we hold our current position as a defensive anchor," he continued. "Let the Klingons execute their attack runs around us while we provide sustained fire and maintain our evacuation capability. We can fully coordinate firing solutions with them and the Fighters, not fleet movements." he said.
"Captain, with the extra power we saved from shutting down those systems. I can get us back to pretty well full shields, and weapons." He looked at the view screen. "We may not be maneuverable, but our firepower is twice those than those klingon ships out there. You want to fight like a klingon, lets fight like a klingon."
